Hannink, on his nomination by the President to be our next Judge Advocate General (JAG) of the Navy, and for his appointment to the grade of vice admiral. Since 2015, Hannink has served with distinction as Deputy JAG and also Commander, Naval Legal Service Command (NLSC). His prodigious skill, diverse experience and steady temperament make him an ideal choice to serve as the senior military counsel to the Secretary of the Navy and Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), as well as the leader of our worldwide JAG community. Hannink graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering. He completed pilot training at Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas. He then entered the Navy's Law Education Program and graduated from Baylor Law School in 1994. He later earned a Master of Laws in International Law from George Washington University Law School. During the past three years, Hannink provided visionary leadership to the attorneys, enlisted personnel, and civilian employees at our 14 NLSC commands around the world. As the DJAG, he also effectively served as the deputy Department of Defense Representative for Ocean Policy Affairs. Together with the JAG community's next DJAG-Rear Adm. Del Crandall, the Navy and the JAG community are in very capable hands. It has been a distinct pleasure to serve alongside Hannink - a highly accomplished legal practitioner and a proven leader who values every member of the JAG community, and who will guide our organization into the future.
