Defense Service Offices

Defense Service Offices, or DSOs, provide legal advice and representation to eligible service members at courts-martial and administrative proceedings, including enlisted administrative separation boards and officer boards of inquiry, in addition to providing advice to service members on defense-related topics such as nonjudicial punishment.

DSO Commands

Region Legal Service Offices

Region Legal Service Offices, or RLSOs, their detachments and branch offices are organized into departments and divisions that provide services in the functional areas of legal assistance (wills, powers of attorney, etc.), trial counsel, command services, court reporting, international law (overseas RLSOs), ethics counseling and command administration. Local conditions may require variations in organizational structure.

RLSO Commands

Naval Justice School

The Naval Justice School (NJS) provides intensive instruction to officers and enlisted personnel in the fundamental principles of military justice, civil and administrative law, and procedure, with practical application of those principles to the problems inevitably arising within every command. The NJS curriculum assists in the attainment of a high standard of legal practice and administration of the naval justice and naval disciplinary systems, as well as the naval civil and administrative law system.
